First call for the

8th International Week of ESEC – Theme: Key competences for the future

4th April – 8th April 2011, ESEC, Coimbra

This is the first call for the 8th IWE. Just like the previous international weeks, this event aims to bring together academics, researchers, teachers, trainers, students, institutions, organisations, associations, enterprises, social partners and other representatives in order to share knowledge and experience on the assigned theme: “Key competences for the future” as well as to provide an opportunity to reflect and debate on a common interest for all kind of people and organizations.

With this edition, we intend to explore all the multiple possibilities allowed by the chosen theme. Thus, we will explore it identifying and delimitating present and future competences that will play a major role not only in the success of the organizations, but also in the individual success of people, in different scenes of social intervention. It will be possible to prospectively outline processes and design determinant competences to the entrepreneurial success, combining different individual competences that may be able to respond in the best properly manner to a world in permanent and accelerating change.

The theme encourages the discussion and presentation of contributions concerning with the necessary capacities to embrace the future, starting from basic competences leading to individual success in the new world at different levels: from a social, economic and environmental, point of view to social and personal awareness about the key issues around the competences for the future.

The 8th IWE welcomes any contributions with a multidisciplinary perspective, from applied areas, such as teacher training, sports and leisure, social education, communication and media studies, tourism and fine arts. Contributions related and sustained in the following thematics (particularly in domains such as sustainability, education, culture, tourism, art, communication, enterprise, cohesion, rural and urban development and the information society) are especially welcome:

  • 2011-2020: Decade of Action for Road Safety
  • 2008-2017: Second United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty
  • 2005-2015: International Decade for Action, “Water for Life”.
  • 2005-2014: United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development
  • 2005-2015: International Decade for Action, “Water for Life”.
  • 2005-2010: United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development;
  • 2003-2012: United Nations Literacy Decade: Education for All

The Deadline for the papers’ submission is March 4th 2011. Accepted papers are to be published in the proceedings book. Contributions should have one of the following formats: Academic paper (30 minutes); Lecture (1-2 hours); Seminar/colloquium sessions (90 min-2 hours); workshop (1-4 hours).

The 8th IWE will soon be available online and an email will be sent to all applicants containing detailed information on the event.
